Designed to meet a myriad of needs and care options for the community, the redevelopment of Newman Health Service fosters a profound sense of belonging, place and positive community impact. The vision was to develop an integrated ‘one stop shop’ Ambulatory Care facility to manage healthcare concerns, while maintaining service models of non-clinical support services.
Silver Thomas Hanley designed a facility that meets functional needs, respects the site context and heritage, integrates seamlessly with its surroundings, and celebrates the cultural identity of the Newman community. The new hospital’s prominent roof entry statement draws its inspiration from Mt Newman which is a focal point in the Pilbara landscape.
Central to our approach was the selection of durable, low-maintenance materials that resonate with the region's natural beauty while withstanding its climatic challenges. Equally important was our commitment to delivering services that resonate with the local community, ensuring cultural appropriateness and respect.
Ultimately, our vision was to create more than just a healthcare facility; it was to establish a beacon of community resilience and inclusivity which embodies the rich tapestry of Newman's past, present, and future. We were pleased to work alongside WA Country Health Service and ADCOÂ to deliver this $61m facility in the remote Pilbara region.
Newman Health Service was shortlisted for The Health & Wellbeing Space in the 2024 INDE.Awards, applauding forward-thinking design that promotes a better and healthier life by merging creativity with all aspects of wellbeing.
